Growth and Outreach
During the 2015-2016 year, the Campus Kitchens team at Auburn University experienced significant growth and outreach efforts. The team raised $700 through a crowd-funded campaign called Raise the Dough and received a $1000 Sodexo Foundation Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarship. They also raised $1000 to purchase a three-door cooler for the Community Market of the Food Bank of East Alabama. Through a Rural Hunger Outreach Grant, the team was able to expand their reach by incorporating Meals on Wheels in Auburn as a partner, growing the Community Market and Our House nutrition education programs, and establishing a "Hunger Fellow" to maintain summer operations. The Community Market guests were provided with nutrition information, recipes, and advice for preparing the fresh vegetables. The team also partnered with the Committee of 19 to serve students and residents of EASE House at a banquet funded in part by Tiger Dining. Additionally, they received the "Growing the Movement" award at the 2015 Food Waste & Hunger Summit held at the University of Georgia. During the year, the team served 11,109 meals to 15 community partners using 14,136 pounds of recovered food and a total of 1378 volunteer hours.
