Resilience and Adaptation in the Face of Adversity

2019 - 2020

The Spring 2019 - Fall 2020 year was marked by the implementation of several new protocols and initiatives by the Campus Kitchen Project at Auburn University. These included a recycling initiative, making Family Meals more accessible, and fundraising efforts that resulted in the improvement of kitchen facilities. Unfortunately, the latter half of the year was significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the suspension of operations upon the closure of the university. However, the team continued planning for the following year to ensure that shifts would be able to continue. Despite these challenges, the Campus Kitchen Project was able to serve a total of 35,568 meals from 39,117 pounds of recovered food to a record 27 community partners, demonstrating their resilience and adaptation in the face of adversity.
